**Snake Indian Route**: This area has become a popular tourist destination, but what many of these novice hikers don't realize is the mountaineering potential from this easy point hike. Three main summits are possible via the Snake Indian Route, which are: Pattie, Lyell and Newton Buttes. Each of them more technical as respectively listed. The east side bay descent leads one to the superb Coconino ridge that is definitely a top ten Grand Canyon approach scramble. Wayne Tomasi has a decent writeup of the route in his book (pages 221-223), *Grand Canyon Hiking Adventures, 2008*. Parking Obvious north side dirt parking lot along Highway 64, less than a mile east of the restricted Yaki Point junction.
