Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the Better Beta app, website, and waitlist (the "Service"). By joining the waitlist or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

1. Who can use Better Beta

You must be at least 12 years old (or the minimum age in your country) and able to form a binding contract. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you confirm you're authorized to do so.

2. Your account

You're responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping your login secure. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use.

3. Climbing safety: read this

Climbing is dangerous and can result in serious injury or death. Beta, grades, topos, route descriptions, conditions, and locations in the Service are user-generated and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. They are not professional advice. You are solely responsible for assessing the risks, checking your gear and anchors, and making your own decisions. Use the Service at your own risk.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of the routes, sends, photos, and other content you post. By posting, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and share that content so we can operate the Service, including showing it to other climbers, since the community is the point.

You're responsible for what you post, and you confirm you have the rights to it.

5. Acceptable use

• Don't post unlawful, infringing, harassing, or deliberately false content.
• Don't post deliberately dangerous or misleading beta.
• Don't disclose sensitive or access-restricted crag locations where sharing is prohibited.
• Don't scrape, reverse-engineer, overload, or disrupt the Service.
• Don't misuse other climbers' personal information.

6. Prohibited content

Better Beta is a climbing community and has zero tolerance for the following. Posting, sharing, or distributing any of it through the Service is strictly forbidden:

• Sexual, pornographic, or sexually explicit content of any kind, and any sexual content involving minors.
• Graphic violence, gore, or content that threatens, glorifies, or incites violence.
• Hate speech or content that harasses, bullies, or demeans people based on who they are.
• Content promoting self-harm, illegal activity, or terrorism.

Violating this section will result in immediate removal of the content and termination of your account, and where appropriate we will report it to the relevant authorities.

We may also remove content or suspend accounts that break any other rule in these Terms.

7. Waitlist & beta

The Service is in private beta. Features may change, break, or be removed, and access is offered at our discretion. Joining the waitlist does not guarantee access by any particular date.

8. Intellectual property

The Better Beta name, logo, app, and design are ours. These Terms don't grant you any rights to them beyond using the Service as intended.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We don't guarantee the Service will be accurate, uninterrupted, or error-free.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Better Beta will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any injury or loss arising from your climbing activity or reliance on user-generated content.

11. Termination

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms or to protect the Service.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms as the product evolves. We'll change the date above and, for material changes, give notice in the app or by email. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
